You’ll likely have to buy it again, but even older AAA games like the Grand Theft Auto series come in at less than ten bucks (each). Check Out Games on the Google Play StoreĮven if you have a legal copy of your game ROM and an emulator to play it on, you should still consider looking for the same game in the Google Play Store. You can play your NES games, but also SNES, GameBoy, PlayStation and more-all from one device. As we’ll get to in a moment, most emulators for the SHIELD support a variety of platforms. The PlayStation Classic will only let you play the 20 games it comes with, so when you finish them all, the console becomes a (very attractive, mind you) decoration. This makes it easier to include support for that controller, meaning you’ll have more luck getting it to work with your favorite retro game right out of the box.Īnother advantage of the SHIELD is that you can play games from multiple platforms.
Since NVIDIA has a first party controller for the SHIELD, emulator developers know that’s the controller most users will have.
And when you’re not gaming, you can use the same box to binge watch your favorite shows. While setting up emulators on the SHIELD isn’t as easy as just plugging in an NES Classic, it’s much simpler than building your own system and more TV-friendly than emulating games on your PC. Why Use the SHIELD Instead of Buying a Classic Console? Before getting started, take a look at the laws in your region and make sure you’re getting your ROMs in a legal way. The cartridge needs to stay in your possession, and you can’t share the ROM file with anyone. Copyright laws vary from country to country, but in the best case, the only legal method to obtain a ROM is to rip it from a cartridge that you own.

There is no YoutubeTV mini driver so I used the Custom_App minidriver and set the app_id to .tvunplugged. I then tried using the Custom_App minidirver and setting the app_id to .nvidia. The Amazon Video minidriver had an app_id of and didn't work so I edited to .nvidia and it still didn't work. There is no Kodi minidriver so I used the Custom_App minidriver and set the App ID to . Hulu minidriver needed to be edited to from using the C4 Driver Editor. Netflix minidriver worked fine out of the box with no editing or anything. I'm trying to get the following apps to work under the Watch menu: Netflix, Hulu, Kodi, Amazon Video, YoutubeTV (not Youtube) It was easy enough to edit the minidriver with the right app_id so I went for it and it worked. I understand what you're saying about leaving the app_ids alone and letting your driver do the lookups but the Hulu minidriver must not have been finding the right app_id because it wasn't working. I confirmed that app type was set correctly to "Google Play TV". I'm very excited about getting this to work because I can now run everything off 1 box which really streamlines installation and maintenance and a customer can choose what to watch right from the Watch menu. I am indeed using the Video Storm c4z driver with the Amazon minidrivers, including the Custom_App minidiver.
